Today was a long and strenuous day starting off the week with moving these 50lbs bags onto different palets so that we could transfer them closer to the animals. In all I moved over 30 bags and had to saran wrap them so they would all stay together. Also today I fed the chickens and collected the eggs, but the biggest part of today was loading pigs up for slaughter.
While we were getting everything ready to load the pigs up onto the back of the pickup truck, Jeff, my sponsor, kept telling me how loading pigs was the hardest thing in the world to do, and that everything goes wrong. He was telling me these stores of how pigs would throw palets with people behind them, and how they really will do whatever they want. So, starting off I was a little nervous. I was just waiting for something to go wrong.
We started off by getting the biggest pigs in the pin getting them all ready. Then, we locked 3 of the 5 in line to go. They walked up the ramp with little trouble and easily went into the back of the truck. Next we did the same thing with the remaining two. It was so easy that Jeff keeps telling me that I must be a pig whisperer because that was the easiest time that they have ever had. Hopefully next week will be just as easy.
