Week 2 Day 2
This week we are intending to start hunting for real. We are in the process of getting permission to hunt on a property in Hunting Valley, so then we will have two places where we could hunt. When we talked to our sponsor Mark today, he had some very good insight. He showed us a diagram of what a turkey looks like normally and what it looks like when it is puffed up. Now we know where the turkey's vitals are and where to hit it. The shot needs to be in the middle of the body, just behind the head. This shot would hit the lungs and heart, ensuring a quick death. His saying was, "Hit 'em high, watch 'em die. Hit 'em low, watch 'em go." Mark also told us of a delicious sounding recipe for waterfowl that he has been dying to try and we would like to try it with turkey if we get one. You cut up 1 inch cubes of turkey breast and marinate the cubes in italian dressing. Then, you wrap the cubes in bacon and grill them, making sure to grill each side.
