Week 2

This week was a great start to our endeavors. We got out some and attempted to call in a turkey, but alas, none responded. We did some research on the rainy Friday. We found out that turkeys sometime gobble more in the rain, but usually the rain causes them to be quiet. Also, days after rain and storms are the best for hunting. This is because on stormy days with lots of rain and thunder, the turkeys will tend to roost earlier than usual. So, the day after, the Toms will gobble more, trying to make up for lost time.

This is a shot of our blind. It is roomy enough that I can stand up, lean over, and reload the bow, while still inside. There are openings on each side for the bow, and we sit in folding chairs, back to back.

This is a shot of Grant in the full attire. We wear camouflaged pants, shirts, hats, and a mask because the turkeys have very good eyesight and would be able to spot us otherwise. You can see the crossbow in this image.

This is Grant using the call box. You rub the box with the handle and it creates a variety of sounds imitating a female turkey. We can do young and old hens, purrs, clucks, and yelps.
