We hope to be getting in the field in the next few days, so our focus was no preparing for that. We got together our camouflage gear and blind and we went out and bought our hunting licenses. We practiced with our calls, and we went over where the kill zone is on a turkey. Our sponsor told us, “aim high, watch them die; aim low, watch them go”. This is because the vital organs of the turkey are located higher and if you hit them with an arrow too low the will fly away and die somewhere else. We also need to be careful because when the turkey fans out it will appear much larger than it actually is. The last thing we did was how to field dress a turkey. Basically, how to clean the turkey after it is killed. Cleaning a turkey is very simple because most of the meat on it is on the breasts. These wild turkeys do have meat on their legs but it is not as much as raised turkey. This is because the wild turkeys have to walk around all day and doing this with thick, heavy legs would be a waste of energy.
