Kaitlyn Cerne's 7th Blog
Today was my last day int he Senior Project Medical bservation Senior Project. I spent the day in Pediatrics with a nurse named Molly. Molly had three patients, all of which had pulmonary problems. Patients on this floor of Rainbow Babies sometimes has problems with their kidenys and have to have them removed. They therefore are then put on dialysis. I watched Molly as she administered medications and participated in rounds witht he attending doctors. My overall expereince at the hospiatl has been very positive. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the many different specialties that I could pusure in a medical career. It also gave me the opprotunity to meet a lot of doctors, nurses, social workers, child care specials, nurse practioners and many other people in the medical field. The branch of medicine that I really enjoyed learning about the most were orthopedics and onconolgy. Shadowing doctors at the Seidman Cancer Center was a great expereince that really intreged me. On the other hand, watching hip and knee replacements in the OR was one of my favorite parts of the project. I am very excited to be spending the rest of my project with Athletic Trainer Meg at Hawken starting tomorrow.
