Day 9
This was our first full day in the field. We met at Zack’s house at 7 am and then drove to the Hambden Orchard Wildlife Area, an area set aside for public hunting. We arrived and grabbed our gear and walked into the woods about a half mile until we found a small clear area where we felt comfortable firing our bow clearly at a turkey. We then set up our blind and measured off ten and twenty yards to know our range. We sat in our blind for about 20 min then started calling the turkeys. We continued calling for a few hours, and ate our lunch in our blind. This whole time we saw and heard no turkeys, so we moved deeper into the woods where we again set up for about an hour before we left. We didn’t see anything in our second spot either; however we are very sure we will have better luck next week. On the way out we got slightly lost but thankfully Zack had his iPhone and we were able to use that to help us find our way back to the parking lot where we left our cars.
