Week 2 Day 4
Today was our first full day out in the woods hunting turkeys. We hiked from the parking area, deep into the woods until we found a clearing suitable for our blind (it's a camouflaged tent). We set up the blind and our chairs and got to work trying to call in a turkey. We called for a few hours, but nothing seemed to be happening. We didn't get any responses, let alone see a Tom. After this letdown, we decided to pack up and move to another location. We trudged deeper and deeper into the woods and came across a nice clearing, complete with a makeshift blind created from logs. Since this structure was already set up, we didn't have to pitch the blind and instead sat our chairs down and again started calling. We summoned a few birds, but no Toms returned our calls. We are confident that no Toms were in the surrounding area because our calls are quite loud and shrill; any Toms within a mile would have heard us. Tomorrow, we will continue hunting and hopefully be a bit luckier.

The hunt sounds like it takes a lot of patience. I admire your ability to wait it out day in and day out. Can't wait till the day that you finally get what you're looking for. Ryan and I may have to stop by some day to get a good shot of you and the set up. I bet it is one for the picture books. Well good luck hunting the rest of the week! Hope something turns up!
