Day 8

After my AP calculus test in the morning, we were able to get out into the field for the first time. We made it into the field at about 1:15 pm and stayed until 3 pm. This was a relatively short hunt but it gave us time to learn how to effectively set up our blind in the woods and work on our calls. When we set up the blind we stepped off ten and twenty yards in each direction so we knew our distance, if we saw a turkey. Once we were in the blind we sat for about 15 minutes before we started to call for the turkeys. Even though we called until we packed up at 3 we did not see or hear any turkeys. We learned a few things about our blind and realized that we could comfortably fit two folding chairs inside for our next hunt. So some may think the afternoon was wasted because we did not see anything but I think it was very valuable as it allowed us to be better prepared for our next hunt. The best part of the day was that just as we got into our cars to leave the rain began to fall.
